Logistic Seminar, May 18, in Romania, Bucharest

  • Date: 18 May 2011 : 18 May 2011
18/5/2011 – Over 270 participants at the logistics seminar May 18th

More than 270  experts and stakeholders discussed, during today’s seminar, the possibilities to enhance Romania’s competitive position in Europe and develop it as the Eastgate Trade Hub of Central and Eastern Europe, through the Port of Constanta.

The conference also saw the creation of the first Romanian logistics faculties, developed in partnership between the Bucharest and Timisoara Polytechnical Universities, the Ovidius University in Constanta and the Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo.

“This program, partly financed by the Dutch state, is a major step forward in developing the transports and logistics capabilities of Romania, by creating a new generation of highly-skilled logistics specialists that would use state of the art logistics practices and capabilities, similar to those developed in the Netherlands” said Gerard Kuijs, Owner and CEO Archicom Romania.

Also, the creation of the Romania Black Sea Gateway Association was announced at the conference, an organization designed to promote the development of Romania’s potential in the field of re-export activities, transport and logistics, by acting as a dialogue partner for the Romanian authorities, but also attracting assembly, trade, transport and logistics investors interested in the opportunities offered by Romania.

“Central and Eastern Europe, including Austria, accounts today for more than 12% of EU’s GDP, yet the region attract less than 1% of the sea freight coming to Europe. That is a huge imbalance, estimated by our calculations at more than 5 million containers (TEU) per year and 20 million tonnes of bulk commodities, goods coming mostly from Eastern Asia and the Middle East, that should enter the region directly, but are transiting through North-Western Europe”, stated Robin Martens, Managing Director of the European Gateways Platform and Director General of Archicom Romania.
